Albania is a desperately poor European country with many of its people living in extreme poverty. Since communism was crushed by a peoples revolution back inn 1992 the country has been run by a number of corrupt governments leaving people in desperate situations. Unemployment is around 70% and many Albanian men have left the country to work elsewhere, often leaving their wives and children to fend for themselves, never to return. The government lost millions investing in a flawed pyramid scam, leaving the countries economy in a very depleted state. It is some of these people that the charity is helping through family sponsorship. Currently A2B is supporting around thirty families, providing basic food, medicines, and in some cases decent housing. A2B also try to assist families to become self sufficient and they are currently looking into various ways to help them achieve this, including purchasing livestock for milk and cheese production etc., and second hand clothing which the women can sell in he local markets. Funding is provided by a number of loyal sponsors, either by sponsoring individual families or by regular giving to the general funds.
